Strong Winds Down Trees, Knock Out Power for Half of Crane
- Editor’s noteResidents can take fallen branches, limbs, and other storm debris to the city yard-waste dump, located in the industrial park on the south side of town.
A quick-moving storm swept through Crane on Friday evening, leaving behind downed trees, scattered limbs, and a widespread power outage that affected much of the community.
The storm, which rolled in around 4:45 PM, brought strong winds that toppled trees and scattered debris across yards and streets. Several large limbs were reported down across the north side of town, with some blocking neighborhood roads until city crews were able to clear them.
The outage left parts of town in the dark for several hours, with homes and businesses across the north parts of town impacted. Crews worked through the evening to restore power, with all residents back online before midnight.
But even as the lights returned, cleanup is still far from finished for many. As of Friday, several large trees remain down in yards along BB highway, and road shoulders are lined with broken limbs awaiting removal.
Utility crews continue to make repairs, including work on damaged poles. A city bucket truck equipped with a pole setter has been parked holding a utility pole in place (Washington Ave/East Ave), with repairs expected to continue into next week.
